Rediscovering a Lost Habit

Of the millions things which is overdue, I resume this space from a new place, Mumbai. For sixteen years I complained about rains in Assam and the next five years about the heat in Delhi. And now, vivacious cycle, what the life is, and here I am complaining about rain again.  I rains like anything here, and if someone from Guwahati is saying, believe me, the gravity is intense. What kept me away from this space was the culmination of my undergraduate college life. College life is a very funny one. The first year you try to grasp what is happening around, the second year you finally start hanging on to things and as you finally settle by the third, it’s over. It was just yesterday that I joined in a nervous undergraduate fresher, and today here I am writing after having attended the first two days of Masters Programme. The final semester was hectic as well as difficult. As in, all throughout you study at least to pass, while now you study because you have to pass. And diff...

Confessions of Autowallas

This series was started about a year and a half back, post the horrific December 2012 incident. However, due to the lack of credibility issues and also because of my foolishness of not recording the details of the interviewed Auto drivers led to the rejection of the piece by some major media organizations. I actually asked the auto wallas what they think of rape, public obscenity and sex.  The whole crux of interviewing the Auto drivers of the city happens to be the fact that they travel though out the city and deal with the maximum number of people. Our window into the unknown nightlife of Delhi can only be these auto drivers because they happen to be the only one travelling around the city. Each day they carry passengers and on a personal basis, interact with the vivid experiences. The opinions expressed below are not mine. I just recorded them. At some point they would seem very conservative and stereotyped. But even though I could not establish credibility, none ...

Lets debate 'Rape'

Post December, India has been under an uproar. After the horrific Delhi tragedy, media is filled with reports of heinous crimes committed against women in the country. Be it the play of the media or the need of the hour, today we are being reminded of the pathetic condition of women in this great nation of India almost every day. But the fact remains, what have we done and what has changed? Nothing, I guess. What we discuss in our newsrooms and write in our newspapers gets completely washed away the moment we step into our living room. The onscreen approach and the real life approach to the problems related to women in India stands miles apart. This is a part of the culture that prevails in India. We claim ourselves to be women activists, advocating justice for victims, but we disallow our sons from marrying a raped or molested woman, because she is no longer pure. We are the new age generation, who goes to every possible candle march in the city, cries in front of the ca...

Delhi Police for You

The recent incidents in the Capital have surely put a big question mark on the efficiency of the Delhi Police. Every other day we find articles criticizing the department. We find activists demanding the resignation of the top Delhi Police officials and hear speeches about how the police have failed in its duty. We stand nowhere to argue that Delhi is a very vast city.  And protection of each and every civilian is no doubt the responsibility of the Delhi Police. But we must understand that even we are responsible for our own safety. Well, my point here is not to discuss who is correct and who is wrong; who has failed or what could have been done. Actually here I am sharing three instances of mine which I have experienced in relation to the Delhi Police. At this point of time, I believe seldom we find articles praising the police. But I believe, Delhi police is indeed commendable. At least from what I have experienced, I pretty much have a faith in the department now matt...

Living life, the 'Boiled' Way!!

No No, this isn't another of those depressing post, describing the sorrows of my life and what I have done to  cope up with them. This is actually a social message. Well, I am not sure about that, but surely a suggestion to the friends, who belongs to a place where intestines fails to take the hot and spicy food items and high fat junked food.   When I came o Delhi almost two and a half years back, the best thing I liked about it was its food. Delhi is quite famous for it roadside food and delicious cheap stalls, that enriches every taste bud of yours. But, little did I know that, after coming from a land, where the staple diet and its composition is totally different, the food I took here could lead to so much complications that I had to spent sleepless nights in Hospitals. Street Food From Sinakji to Chole Kulche, Aloo Tikki to Cahri Chawal, ask me anytime, I am just ready to gulp all down. So tasty it was, the regular Mc Donald visits, which of course...

Almost a Firesale

Movie freaks as well as Techno freaks must be quite familiar with the word firesale or firehall. Die Hard 4.0  was probably the last Hollywood movie, where the word was used or in fact whole of the movie was based on it. However, for those who, who are alien to the word as of yet, it is a term to denote a systematic cyber attack, and the Wikipedia describes it as an popular fiction describing a three-stage coordinated attack on a country's transportation, telecommunications, financial, and utilities infrastructure systems. The attacks are designed to promote chaos and foster a leaderless environment. The term "fire sale" is used because "everything must go". The basic point is, when there would be a Firesale , whole of the system of the country gets altered and there there is chaos all around. The common public suffers as everything, from Transportation to Communication gets disrupted. Certain events today in the country really instigated me to compa...

The Psychologist Rickshaw Pullers

This is something interesting I observed about the rickshaw wallas of Delhi; they seem to have mastered the art of studying the body language and personality of their passengers. Also, they are the most well informed temporary residents of a particular locality;  temporary in the sense that they loiter around the area, ferrying customers only during day, while they reside somewhere else. The Wikipedia of an area: Rickshaw Pullers Just ask them anything you want know about the area, and you feel like surfing Wikipedia for the concerned area. Be it Examination centre or any other office, they might not be able to read the name written on the board, but can take you there via the shortest route, the moment you give them hint about it. But the most fascinating fact about these rickshaw pullers is that, the moment you alight from the Metro Station, a bunch of Rickshaw pullers gather around you shouting the most probable locations you wo...
